I needed a replacement bag to carry some personal items, not too small but handy enough to accept A4 type docs....The Mule fits in well for me since it has this capability without being too large..The external material is strong but light and hence able to withstand a fair amount of rough treatment...The only fault lies within....The side pockets are separated from the main compartment by the thinnest of linings and it feasible that any sharp items, such as carrying the odd biro pen or keys could well puncture this thin fabric in a short space of time...It's like clothing you buy these days, you manage to get hold of a decent coat for instance and then find the pockets are so thin that the first time you carry your car keys a hole appears and they vanish within the lining and become difficult to extract...It's a cheap finish by Berghaus and it spoils an otherwise very good bag.....no doubt they save money on manufacture, however, it's enough to deter me from buying another.....check...

Good quality holdall
I really like this bag. It's sturdy well made and not fancy. It looks from the picture like there'd be shoe pockets at both ends but there is only one. The other end is a flat velcro pocket and there is a small zip pocket on the outside both of which would be suitable for tickets or travel documents. The top opens as a flap rather than a straight zip giving better access. There is a zippable net pocket on the underside of this flap.

There are two compression straps across the top for packing the bag tight or shrinking it down. These can get in the way but can be cut off easily enough.
